Developing ideas for a remarkable series of public realm projects.

The Partnership sought to deliver a landscape-based creative project which could be a single artwork or series of creative artworks or events over a timespan of 20 months.

Key outcomes were:

  • New understanding of the importance and deeper appreciation of Morecambe Bay by visitors and local people.
  • Renewed confidence and pride in place and heritage of Bay.
  • More and a wider range of people engage with heritage.
  • The Bay’s heritage given contemporary resonance, and re-invented for new audiences.

Maria scoped the best locations and approach to commissioning a number of high quality public realm projects, building on the Partnership’s Interpretation Strategy and visiting many sites across the Bay landscape. She supported the establishment and terms of reference of the Understand Focus Group who were to oversee this commissioning, and provided artistic advice and practical support to the Partnership.

Morecambe Bay Partnership Project Manager Jan Shorrock and Deco Publique delivered a remarkable series of public realm projects across 2018 and 2019.
