The programme of contemporary and traditonal Chinese work in 2011 included:

  • Beijing Modern Dance Company (UK Premiere of Aware).
  • Chinese shadow puppetry at dusk in the grounds of Edward Heath’s home, with the Wei Chao family from Hangzhou.
  • Residency with Li Xu from the Weifang Kite Festival, with workshops in schools and communities leading to a family kite day at Danebury Hill Fort, above which an impressive dragon kite was flown alongside hundreds of Chinese kites that had been created.
  • Writ Large Chinese calligrapher Jianzhou Xu and English calligrapher Mary Noble created an exhibition of Chinese and English proverbs of similar meanings alongside a new poem about Wiltshire’s White Horses by poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy, writ large at scale onto the gallery walls.
  • Chinese poet Yang Lian in conversation with English artist Kate Daudy who works in accordance with an ancient tradition of inscribing objects with poems.
  • Guo Yue Chinese flautist.
  • Daily early morning drop in Tai Chi in Salisbury Cathedral Close.
  • A programme of Chinese film curated by Patrick Bliss.
