Dedicated to Veronica Stewart.

Jonathan Dove created the new church opera which premiered in Salisbury Cathedral. The story of Adam and Eve’s journey out of the Garden of Eden has a particular resonance in a time of growing awareness of our impact on the planet.

Libretto by Alasdair Middleton, directed by Ben Wright, and stage design by  Will Holt.   Performers included Salisbury Festival Chorus and Salisbury Community Choir. Four-star review, Financial Times

Working with Maria Bota to develop a new opera for Salisbury Festival was an unusually rewarding experience. From the outset, she was alive to the possibility of making something special. She had the highest hopes for our artistic endeavours, and focused all our energies on that. Whatever practical and financial hurdles she had to overcome, the experience of the creative team was simply that she wanted to cultivate the most fruitful possible working atmosphere, and do everything for our piece to be wonderful. She skilfully brokered partnerships with local musicians, in which there was always enormous good will, and supported the team with time, thought and resources. The result was an unforgettable production of poetic intensity - everything I could have wished for, and more.
