Julian Maynard Smith‘s Dominoes takes as its starting point the simplest of ideas… a line of dominoes. Thousands of breezeblocks are used to create a moving sculpture which runs across the city, unfolding over the course of the day. Creating a celebration across the whole city, Dominoes transforms the rhythm of the city.

150 participant volunteers and tens of thousands of audience gathered around the line which travelled two kilometres through central Milton Keynes, from the historic and soon to be demolished building The Point, through intu, over a porte-cochere, through two peoples’ homes, across a derelict garden centre, through adventure centre Xscape, through and over two parked cars, into and out of the Milton Keynes Theatre and the Slug and Lettuce and culminated on Midsummer Boulevard.

The event stopped people in their tracks and transformed the town, leaving an indelible and playful memory for all who participated in or encountered the work.
